About us

The association of afro-brazilian art and culture “Capoeira Dandara“ was founded in Bremen in 2002 by Mestra Maria Pandeiro Roberta Maria Neves), Mestre Sombra’s student. Since 1994, Maria Pandeiro has lived in Bremen and has contributed to the promotion of Capoeira.

Within the association, Maria Pandeiro offers Capoeira classes and training as well as other Afro-Brazilian traditional and cultural elements as Maculele, Samba de Roda, Puxada de Rede and Afro-Brazilian dance. The purpose of the association is to disseminate, preserve and take care of capoeira with its physical, dancing, rhythmic, musical, artistic, historical and other cultural aspects. Capoeira Dandara is affiliated to the Associacão de Capoeira Senzala de Santos , which is a member of the Confederacão Brasileira de Capoeira (Brazilian umbrella organization of Capoeira).

Another important aim of the association is to promote mutual comprehension of both cultures, establish an exchange between Brazil and Germany and also to teach Portuguese (Brazilian) language skills. The exchange within Capoeira between Brazilians, Germans and people of other nationalities is fundamental in order to get closer to Brazilian culture. Furthermore, Brazilians can find their own way of passing knowledge of their culture to others through capoeira.
